How the keto diet works

The popular keto diet is all the craze lately, it has a lot of raving fans and for good reason, it works! The keto diet aims to push your body to use fat as fuel, this is called ketosis. Instead of burning glucose or carbohydrates for fuel by following a keto diet your liver starts making ketones and your body switches to burning fat for fuel. The keto diet has been proven as an effective way to lose weight. A recent study in 34 adults found that those who followed a ketogenic diet for 8 weeks lost on average more than five times more body fat than those on a low fat diet.
On a keto diet you want to eat fat with every meal like avocado, olive oil, fatty fish, eggs, and butter. You also want to include moderate amounts of protein in your diet like steak, chicken, fish, and pork. While you increase fat consumption on a keto diet and eat moderate amounts of protein you want to cut carbs to lower then 50 net carbs per day. In order for your body to switch to burning fat for fuel you must keep your carbohydrate intake low.
On a keto diet you want to eat lots of healthy vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, green beans, and leafy greens.
You want to avoid sugary foods on the keto diet so you stay in ketosis. So foods like cake, ice cream, candy, brownies, and junk in general is off the table. You can’t lose weight eating these types of foods anyway. Keep in mind though nowadays there is healthy keto options out there. They even have keto breads and keto ice cream so you can have a healthy dessert once in a while as long as you check the labels first and make sure the keto food your buying is healthy and low carb.
The keto diet has a lot of other health benefits as well, its great for diabetics to lower your insulin levels, it helps with energy, focus, and improved mental clarity. It also can help lower blood pressure. All and all it is a great way to lose weight, gain energy, and feel better. It’s a healthy diet to follow. Make sure if you choose to go on a keto diet you count your calories. You will be eating a lot of healthy fats which are great for weight loss but they are high in calories so it is important to count your calories on a keto diet.
