Put the twinkie down, or better yet just throw it away completely. It is ruining your weight loss goals. Are you struggling to see the numbers move on the scale? Are you having trouble losing weight and just not seeing the results you want. It could be all the junk food your eating. Junk food is just plain bad for you and compromises your weight loss goals. Junk food is loaded with additives and chemicals that slow down your metabolism and make you overeat. Junk food is high in calories, sugar, and trans fat. How do you feel after you eat cookies or cake. You know the feeling, you just want more and more. That is because of all the sugar your eating which spikes your insulin levels and causes more hunger. This leads to excessive weight gain and can lead to health problems down the road like heart disease and diabetes.
So what constitutes junk food, basically any fast food like fried foods, hamburgers from mcdonalds, cakes, cookies, ice cream, brownies, chips, and fries to name a few. Most people know what junk food is, that’s not the main problem. It’s how do I stop eating it. That’s the main problem.
This stuff has to get eliminated from your diet if your ultimate goal is weight loss. There is just no way around, junk food is terrible for your health and it increases cravings which cause you to eat more junk food. It can be a vicious cycle, and some people are even addicted to junk food. Big food doesn’t put all those additives and chemicals in there for nothing, there designed to make you feel hungry and make you want to eat even more of these tasty but dangerous foods.
So how do you kick the junk food habit for good?
Start by making a list of healthy foods and snacks that you like to eat and choose them over junk food. In other words you can have a handful of nuts instead of a little Debbie snack. Or you can have a Greek yogurt instead of a bowl of ice cream. You need to have healthy go to options that you can run to when you get hungry. That’s the first step to getting off of junk food. You must have healthy options around.
The next step is to make sure your eating enough vegetables. You see junk food has no nutrients in it at all so it leaves you feeling hungry after you eat it. This is great for the big food companies that are selling this over processed junk but no so great for your weight loss goals. Vegetables like broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, and romaine lettuce are loaded with nutrients and these will fill you up and shut down the cravings that you are having. That’s step two, eat your vegetables. Make sure to eat a vegetable with every meal.
Step three is two never skip meals especially breakfast. When you skip meals you trigger primal hunger, this leads to intense cravings later on in the day and can cause you to give in and make a bad food choice. A good meal plan that I follow myself is 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. I do not believe in having a cheat day and recommend you just kick the junk food habit completely. It just ruins your metabolism, overloads your body with sugar which turns right into fat and makes weight loss nearly impossible. Get the junk food out of the house. Don’t buy it and don’t eat it. It’s ruining your health anyway and preventing you from losing weight.
